Leslie Halaby-Moore steps into today’s spotlight. Leslie is a ringmaster, in more than one sense of the word. In addition to being a master of the extremely detailed and precise medium of chain maille; as the president of the Yellow Breeches Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, she’s also in charge of our circus troupe of creative members. She manages to do these without benefit of top hat, megaphone, or net, too!
What about your medium drew you to it initially and what’s kept you working at it?
The detail is what captivates me and still does today. I love seeing how small I can take a weave.
If you had to choose a medium, other than your current one, what would you like to try and why?
Woodworking or carving. Why? I am not really sure why except that I find wood to be silky and smooth, almost fluid. These are some of the same things that intrigue me about chain maille. Silky and fluid yet it is metal. Something that is supposed to be hard and stiff.
What are you most looking forward to at FIFC?
I love shows in general for their energy. I am looking forward to sharing my work with all the great customers and art lovers I know will be there.
