Welcome to our 2014 Fall Into Fine Craft Artisan Spotlight series. Our first featured artist in this year’s line-up is Clare Miller.
Clare salvages wood – panels from old wooden doors, discarded cabinet doors, for example, that would otherwise be considered garbage – to use as her canvas. After refinishing, if it’s needed, she carves her original images onto their surface. I feel that I’m giving back to Mother Nature by salvaging her old wood in honor of her trees.
Her choice of raw materials – discarded pieces of wood previously used in construction – and her talent for finding and coaxing beauty from chipped paint layers assure that each of Clare’s works are one-of-a-kind. She delights in revealing the layers of paint in some of the old pieces of wood, using the personality of the reclaimed surface to its best advantage.
Clare accepts commission clients and will be happy to create a piece that is perfect for your home or for a lucky person on your gift list.
Clare will be at Fall Into Fine Craft with over fifty other fine artisans, so mark your calendar today! You can see more of Clare’s work on our Gallery page at www.ybcrafts.org and at www.etsy.com/shop/artbyclare
